Use headings for real sections
A heading introduces a section and helps readers navigate. In a PDF, heading tags communicate that role. Review the hierarchy against the actual document organization; bold styling does not automatically make a sentence a heading.
Describe the information an image conveys
A useful text alternative communicates the image’s purpose in context. A chart may need its key message and a way to access its data. Describing only its color or shape often leaves out the reason it is there.
Review as a reader
Navigate through the headings without reading every paragraph. Does the outline make sense? Read the descriptions alongside the surrounding text. Do they add the information needed to understand the document without duplicating it unnecessarily?
